If you're planning a trip to Seoul and wondering how to fit everything into one visit, you're not alone. With countless cafés, palaces, markets, shopping districts and hidden neighbourhoods to explore, it can be difficult to know where to start.

After visiting South Korea twice, I've created the 10-day Seoul itinerary I wish I'd had before my first trip. It's based not only on my own travels, but also on spending time with local friends who introduced me to hidden cafés, neighbourhoods and experiences I may never have discovered on my own.

Seeing how they navigated the city, where they loved to eat, and the places they recommended gave me a completely different perspective on Seoul. This itinerary combines the city's must-see attractions with local favourites, hidden gems and practical travel tips, all thoughtfully grouped by neighbourhood so you can spend less time travelling and more time exploring.

Whether you're visiting Seoul for the very first time or returning to experience more of the city, I hope this guide helps you plan an unforgettable trip.

Why Spend 10 Days in Seoul?

Many travellers only spend three or four days in Seoul before moving on to other parts of Korea. While you can certainly see the highlights in that time, I found that staying longer allowed me to experience the city at a much slower pace.

Some mornings were spent wandering through quiet Hanok villages, while others were dedicated to finding beautiful cafés, exploring local markets or simply walking beside the Han River. Seoul is one of those cities where every neighbourhood has its own personality, and taking your time lets you appreciate that.

What's Included in This Itinerary?

This itinerary has been designed to give you a balance of Seoul's most iconic attractions alongside local experiences that made me fall in love with the city.

You'll explore:

  • Traditional palaces and hanok villages

  • Bustling street food markets

  • Some of Seoul's best cafés

  • Shopping districts like Myeongdong and Gangnam

  • Creative neighbourhoods like Seongsu

  • Day trips to the DMZ or Nami Island

  • A day trip to Suwon

  • The Han River

  • Theme parks, viewpoints and hidden restaurants

  • Plenty of opportunities to slow down and explore

Why I Planned It This Way

One thing I learnt while travelling around Seoul is that the city is much bigger than it first appears.

Instead of trying to tick off attractions in order, I grouped each day by neighbourhood. This keeps travel time to a minimum and allows you to experience each area without constantly rushing between train stations.

It also leaves room for the unexpected - because some of my favourite memories came from discovering a hidden café, wandering down a side street or stumbling across a local market I hadn't planned to visit.

Some of My Favourite Seoul Experiences

Every trip is different, but these are a few moments that have stayed with me long after returning home.

Wearing a Hanbok at Gyeongbokgung Palace

Exploring Gyeongbokgung Palace while wearing a traditional hanbok was one of the highlights of my trip. Walking through the palace grounds felt like stepping back in time, and it's an experience I'd recommend to every first-time visitor.

Discovering Seoul's Café Culture

If you know me, you'll know I can't resist a beautiful café. Seoul has some of the most creative cafés I've ever visited, from hidden laneway coffee shops to stunning bakeries and unique themed cafés. I could happily spend days café hopping around the city.

Wandering Through Insadong

Some of my favourite memories weren't planned at all. I loved wandering through the streets of Insadong, browsing little stores, discovering hidden laneways and stumbling across cafés, art galleries and traditional shops I never expected to find.

Trying New Food & Exploring Local Markets

One of the best ways to experience Korea is through its food. Whether it was wandering through bustling markets, trying street food in Myeongdong or ordering dishes I'd never heard of before, every meal became part of the adventure.

Boxing & Dance Classes

Some of my favourite experiences happened outside the typical tourist attractions. I signed up for a boxing class in Jamsil and a dance class at Just Jerk, giving me the chance to meet locals, make new friends and experience another side of Seoul that many visitors never see.

Learning Korean Along the Way

Learning Korean has made every trip even more rewarding. Being able to order food, ask simple questions and have small conversations with locals gave me so much confidence, and every successful interaction felt like a little personal achievement. It's reminded me that travel isn't just about seeing new places - it's about connecting with people too.

Exploring Beyond Seoul

As much as I love Seoul, some of my favourite memories came from exploring beyond the city. Visiting the DMZ, wandering around Suwon and spending a day on Nami Island each offered a completely different perspective of South Korea. If you have the time, I'd highly recommend adding at least one day trip to your itinerary - they're experiences you won't forget.

If I Had More Time......

Even after two trips to South Korea, I still feel like I've only scratched the surface.

Next time, I'd love to explore even more neighbourhoods, visit additional traditional markets, experience a Korean baseball game and take more day trips outside of Seoul.

I was also lucky enough to take a dance class at Just Jerk and a boxing class in Jamsil - two of my favourite hobbies. They weren't originally part of my itinerary but ended up becoming some of the most memorable experiences of the trip.

That's one of the things I love most about Seoul - there's always something new waiting to be discovered.
